I have a 2001 model RSV and am very unhappy with the results of my latest visit to the workshop. After doing a full tune up they said the TPS was way out, and also the Throttle Bodies were way out on balance. They also added in the SP velocity stacks and the air intake from the 2000 model RSV. They said my air/ fuel ratios were way out so they also added a Power Commander and did customer mapping on the Dyno for me (they have been trained by Dynojet in the USA), but my initial Dyno run was down from its original 118 horsepower, to 112 horsepower. They said I should compare the previous Dyno run because it was done on someone else's Dyno (though it is the same type of machine).
They said it is more important to compare the before and after runs on the same machine, this does make sense, but the seems to be a big difference between theirs and the other Dyno. My fuelling was apparently way out, yet after having the custom map done all I have achieved is about a 1 horsepower increase across the board. Though they tell me that this is simply the full throttle increase and that in reality I have got big increases in the part throttle response (not that I can feel it) . Unfortunately I now also have a hesitation at 3000 revs and the bike doesn't feel any different whatsoever on the road. However, and I don't know if this is just my imagination, but the bike seems to be a little rougher as if it is vibrating more. But I don't know if a bad tune and could affect how smooth the engine runs.
Any ideas what could cause it to seem as if it is vibrating more?
As you can appreciate I am pissed off because I would have expected improvements with just the better air intake and the SP velocity stacks, let alone the use of a power Commander as well. But it appears that nothing has changed except I now have a near-perfect fuel map. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be reflected in a change in horsepower.
So the bottom line is, my horsepower and torque have not improved by more than 1 HP, but my air fuel ratios are now good. So what are your thoughts?
Do I give back the Power Commander and run the risk of damaging the engine because it is running so lean?
Could adding the SP velocity stacks and the 2000 model air intakes have caused a decrease in power? Unlikely I would have thought, but they are the only other changes I have made.
Any help or suggestions would be great!
Thanks, Scott

IMHO the shorter SP intakes 'should' give you more top end power at the expense of low/midrange. As Im sure youre aware, on the road, its the low/midrange performance that it particularly important as its where the bike is used most of the time. The fact that youve gained very little seems to go against the theory. So, it may be worth refitting the original stacks for road use. Top end power isnt everything IMO!
It also seems odd that a dyno run wasnt done before all the work was carried out especially bearing in mind the amount of changes being done (and the dosh being spent!). This is most important, and the fact that it wasnt done rings the alarm bells.
Is there any way you can refit the setup you had before to dyno the bike again? You could then refit the new stacks, PCIII, etc one at a time and see what happens to the power curve. Or, of course, remove one thing at a time and see if things improve.
If it were me then I would take the bike back to the workshop where the work was carried out and tell them what you think. They should then have another look at it IMO.
Anyway, just some thorts, OTE

Dissapointing Scott ,sorry to hear this.
If the PC doesnt give you any extra power , why use it? More vibration sounds like unbalanced trottle bodies but they are adjusted?
I would give everyting back , 1hp is not an improvement and with that 3k rpm hesitation youre bike did become worse than better.
Just my humble opinion.
But there is a porto guy in the UK who's hands are itching at the moment reading this......

Your Power commander is (by the sound of it) NOT set up properly.
I've just had my PC3 fitted: Result was impressive. extra 4bhp at the top (though the gain starts from low down), 3 extra ft-lbs of torque too. And the engine feels smoother. All with a Rene can and airkit (and standard eprom), a custom map (using the recommended Tuning Link software) and the PC3. I've gone from 112bhp/69ft-lbs to 116bhp/72ft-lbs.
Ask your guys if they have the software. You certainly shouldn't be getting the hesitation, and if anything the bike should be smoother!
