Hi guys.
I currently ride an '02 TT600. its a great bike but you need to work her to get the best from her.
I am "considering" trading for either an '02 RSV Mille or an '02 Daytona.
Triumph, I pretty much know how they operste and pretty much know the daytona.
I test rode a mille on friday and was pretty impressed. The suspension even set at standard is superb, the riding position is not nearly as extreme once on the move and I guess I'l get used to the vibration of the twin or is that rumble.
Bad points were the well documented indicator position - who's bright idea was that? and the side stand - is there an alternative apart from constant riding, lol?
What goes wrong with the Mille and how do Aprilia handle warranty issues?

Hi Djr, you found this place after all
What you tested was not a Mille, but an undercover, add another 25hp after de-restrictions, etc. and soon you will forget the Daytona
As for the sidestand, have no worries, we have a man in your parts of the world, (he wears a cape), funny Old chap, who can sort it for you.
He can even tell you where to get the bike at a good price.
Helloooooo UK calling!
By Djrae on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 12:34 am: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The bikes are already at a pretty good price - 11k.
Like i said elsewhere she was a pretty fine peice of kit even set up at standard settings. The suspension was what really blew me away though - why would you need ohlins I thought!
Sidestand was a major no no. jeez even back at the testcentre on a nice solid base she seemed pretty iffy! A strong wind and she would be down.

Someone call me?
If you want the best handled warranty claims you need to buy at QMS in Melle. No-one has better contacts with RAD. Dunno how much he's asking for those RSV thingies tho.

talk to me about the sh*t sidestand. what can it be changed for to make the Mille steady?

Sportbike Magazine, September edition, compared the Daytona 955i, RSV and the GSXR750.
The RSV beat the 955 in every catagory and there was no question it was a better bike for the road or track. In fact the RSV and GSXR were wayyyyy in front of the 955 in all the scoring. Not that the 955 was a bad bike, its just its shortcomings were dramatically highlighted in this company (Even though the 955 had the race pipe on.
Sadly the GSXR won by a nose, but probably wouldnt have if they'd bothered to derestrict the RSV.
Actually, in the summary they said. Quote; "Like the British at Whimbleton, at least the 955 is consistant. In that it always turns up, gets its arse kicked, then goes home."
Go for the RSV Djrae, there really is no contest. And if the riding position is to forward, go for raised bars!
By Djrae on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 11:32 pm: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I am starting to think along those lines.
Who does raised bars (should I need them)?
What about reliability/servicing etc?
come on guys whats likely to go wrong?

You get your arse whipped by some geezer on a Falco?

Ride the bike first for a few weeks before you decide if you really need higher bars.
I'm an old git (51) and short (not quite 5'7") so I got a set of Helibars.
I'm not too happy with them, in their standard position they're high but still too far for my reach and the angle is completely flat like on a dirt bike.
I rotated them back closer (and lower). Their position is now ok for the road -less so in the city- but they hit the tank at every U-turn.
It honks when I turn left and hits the kill switch when I turn right....been that way for almost 8k miles now.
LOL
I should have gotten Falco bars instead.
CycleCat makes some great looking bars but I figured that my choices were +1" and even less steering lock or +3" and clear the tank but have to cut into the fairing........so I did neither.
The Gilles raisers are a bit strange looking but more adjustable, they may work.
Best would be if you can get comfy with it without changing anything, if you're 5'10" or taller you should be fine as is.

On the test ride they didnt feel too bad once I got on the move. I had no pain in my wrists but I did feel more in my back than I do with the TT. I think it was just using different muscles.
Looked at a red Mille today- drop dead gorgeous but turns out its only an '01 model and they want the same for that as the '02 models!
Need to find a Silver one in the flesh for a look see. I dont particularly like the matt black.
Am I right in thinking that ALL '02 models have the RSV logo below the cut out now?
Those with the silver is it matt or gloss? kinda difficult to tell from the pics I've seen.

If you want some pictures from a Silver Mille, you could check out my site (http://www.barcoo.be). I'm sure you'll get your answers there

been there m8. I cant make up my mind if yours is matt or gloss though?
Well?
(We have spoken by e-mail)

Phew, that's a tough one. Have you been to QMS yet (Melle)? It's been a while since I've been there but they had a Silver Mille at that time. My dealer had one too, but that one's gone (sold I mean ;-)
I'll have a go... I think the name of the color says a bit (Grigio Piombo i.e. Lead Grey if I'm not mistaken): the silver isn't as matt as the black one is, but it's not shiny metallic like the Metallic Grey you see on quite some cars now. I think it's a bit in between.
If you want I can send you some high res pictures of my Mille, maybe that could help?

My dealer has a silver one I believe...if he hasn't sold it since last week that is... BMR in Kraainem

Baco,
that would be great thanks.
I'm also gonna call RAD and find out if there are any Silver "02's" locally. (if theyd thought to tell me the reds were 01s I could have saved myself a trip down south yesterday!) If not a trip to Kraainem before the end of the week.

Djrae,
On everyone I've seen the 02 silver is gloss not Matt.

I've put some high res pictures on my site in the "My Mille" section.
Regarding the 02 Red ones, all 02 Milles have the same type decals, I have some pictures in the "Photobook" section on my site if you'd like to see for yourself.
If the decals are different (decals which run onto the side radiator cover), then it's a 2001 Mille. Mind you, there were some trouble with those 01 decals coming loose at the radiator covers, but they were replaced under warranty. Be sure to have a good look at those decals when you're planning on buying a 01 Mille!

I dont want the '01 or at least not at the same price as an '02!
I'm going to find a silver one for a look see, then I only need to sweet talk my wife and the bank into letting me go!

thanks for the pics-shows just what I want
i owe you a beer sometime

Went to check at BMR today, it's still there...definately a silver 2002 (checked the decals) and the price tag said 13.000 euro I think. He often works together with QMS and another bike shop in Heist-op-den-Berg, so it can probably be sent to and sold by another bike shop (I don't know where you live...)to make those warranty and maintenance things easier... They've done that before, if you buy it of course , for a peek and all that you'll have to go to kraainem or wherever there's one on display.
Hope this helps...
Wouter

All the Silver ones that I've seen (Falco and RSVs) had like a one inch thick coat of gloss clearcoat on them.
Matte? NOT...they looked like the paint hadn't dried yet, kinda thick to tell the truth.
Closer to a VW Golf silver, not at all like an R1.

i had a look at that one yesterday. very nice. I like. It looks clean. The guy is pretty knowledgable too. suggested changing the front sprocket to a 16 from standard 17(?).
I will not buy from them though as the overall cost from them will be over 1000 more than I've been quoted elsewhere.
just need to convince the wife and the bank manager now (crosses fingers, toes and everything else)
By Powermaster on Saturday, October 19, 2002 - 11:48 pm: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Geo, I have to agree with you, I had one at the factory and I could not believe how BAD the paint finish was, what I could not believe is that the client failed to notice it
By Djrae on Sunday, October 27, 2002 - 07:08 am: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
this has had to be put on hold as my barsteward dealer has now decided that what he first suggested as a trade in has dropped dramatically and the price of the RSV has increased because of trade in. he knew all this from outset bit I am not gonna take that big a loss on the TT.
guess I need to start hitting dealers for the best overall deal or wait till jan to the bikeshow when they are desperate to move bikes.
By Dave on Saturday, November 02, 2002 - 06:38 pm: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Bad finish on the rsv? It's always been my opinion that Aprilia think rsvers don't care about finish because imho the finish on the rsv is crap compared to the falco, do they think that rsvers are more likely to bin it for some reason, so there's no point in doing a good finish?

Dave, my email address is mrvenjer@yahoo.co.uk.
I have been trying to find out about Brands. A friend of mine said there are days you can just turn up and pay. I phoned them and asked and they said only track days but the bird was a pleb !
What is the deal with Brands then ? When can we go down there ?
I am gagging for another track day. I am learning a lot all the time. My wheelies are half decent now, I can control the throttle better and do wheelies down the road - not 2nd gear jobs yet though . My cornering has improved no end too.
As the Rock says "Just Bring It !". Falco riding pipsqueaks.
Anyway, its not fair that Bef and Ben are ex racers, I will crash if I try and keep up with them. Tinkytot isn't though but he got a higher vmax at Donnington than me - his Falco speedo must have been playing up.
OK Dave, I am in. Let the duelling commence. (my war face)

Excuse me, but I haven't raced motorcycles, Kevin, only minimoto's. Normal bikes were too easy.
Ben is an ex-racer though, he can wheelie and everything.

This is a call to arms to all the Falco riding pipsqeaks everywhere! Lay down your rubber in defence of the Falco Honour!
Erm, Bef, what's this 'everything'?
By Befbever on Wednesday, November 06, 2002 - 08:54 am: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Chrisje called it 'showing off'.
Or was it 'showboating' ?
By Dave on Wednesday, November 06, 2002 - 12:18 pm: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
'shoaboating'
Oi, pipskqeak you'll definately be getting your invitation when the Venger and I hit Brands/wherever
- Kevin, how far you prepared to travel, and are you going to cough up for a room this time rather than freeze yer knadgers off again

A sunny weekend is cool by me. Weekdays I work.
What would be good is if we could hire a cheap transit. I would not want to go further than Donnington though. I suppose that leaves Donington, snetterton, Rockingham, Brands and Silverstone, mmmmmmmm, Silverstone ..
Kevin
