I have a 2002 Mille that I'm currently running in.

Several times now I've noticed that when opening the throttle very quickly from around 4000 revs the power totally cuts out for a split second resulting in me being jolted harshly forward. The power is back almost immediately and it then runs as normal until the next time.

So far it happened 3 times in 250 miles and today whilst overtaking so its a bit worrying

Anyone got any ideas as to the cause or had a similar thing happen?

You have an alarm fitted, Nick?

Bef,

Yes I've got a datatool series 3 fitted

Can this cause the problem and if so how do I sort it?

Cheers

Nick I've had the same problem on my Mille only doe's it now and again but can be off putting.I have a Meta Alarm fitted,But seem to remember it did the same thing a couple of times before alarm was fitted. You say it happens at about 4 thousand revs thats about the same for me I did Ring Aprilia at one stage and they said it was the way I was rideing it But having said that it has(or I cannot remember)never happened whitst going up though the gears quickly only after riding for a while in the lower Rev ranges,(in town or after filtering though queues)It's almost like she misfires to clear it's throat then she's ok, but it happens so rarely that I quess i just put up with it and put it down to one of the joys of owning Aprilia's,I am glad other people do experience the glitch I was starting to think it was the way I rode itBest thing to do I supose is never let the revs drop below 4 grand

Okay maybe it won't be the alarm then. I just mentioned that because they've been known to cause problems sometimes. You've never had that on your Falco, Nick?
Perhaps it's the new airbox compared to the Falco one that's causing the glitch. Powermaster input required methinks.

Aprilliag,

It definately never happened on the Falco I had previously and its exactly how you describe i.e. happens when you've remained in one gear and then roll onto the throttle quickly in the same gear
I don't think its a misfire and think its a fuel injection problem.
I'm going to request another standard chip under warranty when I get the bike serviced and hope that will solve it

Nick
If your going to make a warranty claim from Aprilia and expect them to honor it please do us all a favour and Ring up Heathrow airport and tell them to expect an entire squadron of low flying Pigs in the next few weeks.Mind you if the pigs are carrying Aprilia spare parts you can tell Heathrow theres no need to worry for at least 3 monthsP.S let me know how you get on and if a replacment chip works.

This has been referred to Aprilia technical dept and has been sorted (touch wood!)

To cut a long story short the alarm fitted had conflicted with the Eprom

New alarm and new Eprom fitted........I'll see what happens!!

THANKS TO BEFFY THE FUEL GLITCH SORTER!!

The glitch is back I'm afraid...what the fecking hell is causing it!

Its been OK for 1000 miles since deresriction and today it did it 6 times in 110 miles

I haven't a clue what to do about it now.

Is it some quirk of Italian manufacture I'm supposed to ride around by being gentle with the throttle?
Will getting a new bike supplied sort it?
Will having a Meta alarm instead of a Datatool solve it?

Its happened to a few others but it seems to afflict only a very small proportion of Milles.

Any help greatly appreciated Mille ownership is turning into a NIGHTMARE

My Falco has done this only on a couple of occasions in 5000kms. It occurred when I opened the throttle wide and the engine was only just warm (ie the water temp is OK but the oil temp is still increasing). I thought it was caused by the mixture being leaner than the engine requires and hence once the engine is fully upto temp there isnt a problem.
Does this sound similar to your problem or is it more regular and when the engine is hot? Maybe its another electrical problem you have? Sorry if I state the obvious but are the spark plugs and battery in good health?
If the engine stumbles when the air is damp maybe theres a problem with one of the coils?

I HTH in some way.
